Cost of Home Security Systems

January 25, 2019|fsstechnologies

Getting a security system for your home is a wise investment. While the obvious benefit is protection for your family, home, and belongings, it’s hard to put a price on the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you and your family will have professional help in case of an emergency. Still, you must find something that works within your budget and achieves everything you want.

Advertised vs. Actual Price

Some national security companies will advertise low installation prices, but that money is quickly squeezed out later in monthly fees. Also, advertisements will typically show you the costs for a barebones setup when you will likely want to get whatever best suits your needs. But how do you figure out the right budget for those needs?

Pricing depends on a few things, such as the equipment, installation, monitoring services, maintenance, and contract length. A typical three-bedroom setup might include three doors, one motion sensor, one keypad, and an integrated phone app. With our company, this would run around $300 for the install with $35 monthly professional monitoring.

When looking for a security system, keep in mind that most insurance companies will offer you a discount if you have one, but only if it has 24/7 professional monitoring. Insurers will view self-monitored systems as a risk since it’s entirely up to the owner how to respond and deal with an emergency. Stand-alone security cameras by themselves will also likely have no impact on your insurance premiums. However, having a full burglar detection system that’s connected to a central station could get you a ten to twenty percent discount on your premiums.

The Cost of No Security at All

Not getting a security system at all (or getting a sub-par or poorly installed system) can have its own costs. There are roughly two million home burglaries every year, with one occurring every 15 seconds. When you consider the average loss from a home invasion is $2,000, it’s easy to see why a security system could be a smart investment for your home. The benefit is even more salient when you add the feelings of fear and vulnerability that victims of property crimes often experience.

Getting the Right System for Your Home

We recommend getting a quote from a professional service that can install the equipment for you. They can take stock of your situation and figure out what the necessary pieces of security equipment would be to keep your home secure. Feel free to reach out to us, and our team here at FSS Technologies will be happy to answer any questions you have.
