What Kind of Certifications Make Our Team Security Experts?

January 21, 2020|fsstechnologies

At FSS Technologies, we pride ourselves on the fact that we are not your typical fire safety or security company. When people call us, they don’t want a one-size-fits-all solution — they want our experts to design a system that perfectly fits their needs. We take “First in Security, First in Satisfaction” seriously to ensure every customer receives top-notch service.

To guarantee quality and expertise in every interaction, we empower our service technicians by providing rigorous training through comprehensive programs and industry-specific certifications. Learn about our education standards that make our service techs experts in fire safety, security, and life safety solutions.

NICET certifications

The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) is a non-profit division of the National Society of Professional Engineers that offers certification programs in various workforce technologies. As one of the most widely recognized certification organizations nationwide, NICET’s programs are designed by industry leaders and subject matter experts to educate and certify technicians and technologists.

NICET offers certifications for:

  • Civil engineering
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Water-based systems
  • Building systems
  • Electrical power testing
  • Systems software integration

In addition to standard exams, NICET certifications require:

  • Industry-related experience
  • Performance of role-specific activities
  • Personal recommendations

Unlike some one-off programs, NICET training never stops. Even after completing the initial coursework and certification test, technicians must take continuing learning courses and recertify every three years to stay up-to-speed on the most recent codes and standards.

By requiring NICET certifications for our FSS service technicians, we ensure everyone on our team can offer the expert guidance, advice, and service needed to provide the perfect fit for any security or fire alarm system.

NTC training

The National Training Center (NTC) is a Recognized Training Provider for NICET certifications. The NTC develops resources and conducts training for NICET certifications and its own Core Competency Certifications (C3). The C3 curriculum covers these major system categories in the low-voltage industry:

  •  Intrusion systems
  • Video systems
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Access control systems

The NTC offers training through:

  • Live virtual classes
  • In-person classrooms
  • On-site instruction
  • Pre-recorded lessons

All FSS designers and installers take various classes during their training process. These courses help our service techs develop solid foundations in preparation for NICET certifications and customer projects.

IPVM training

Internet Protocol Video Market (IPVM) is a leading authority on video surveillance technology and training. It is an independent organization that offers industry-leading education courses on surveillance, access control, and much more.

IPVM offers on-demand courses for:

  • Access control
  • IP networking
  • Surveillance cameras
  • Video analytics
  • Video installation
  • Video surveillance
  • VMS/VSaaS

To ensure they gain expertise in video systems, our FSS service technicians participate in a six-week training course on CCTV design and installation.

Manufacturer certifications

We are in the minority of security companies that require their personnel to maintain manufacturer certifications on every product we offer. Our staff must complete regular classes and training modules on all our products to ensure they can share necessary information with our customers. The manufacturer certifications we maintain include:

With over 45 years of experience, we are more than your everyday security system company or fire alarm supplier. Our family-owned business provides custom-made technology solutions for security, video, fire, and monitoring in commercial and residential settings. Because of the training and continuing education we require, our team truly is first in security and first in satisfaction. Contact us today to schedule a consultation with one of our service technicians and see the FSS difference.
